French toast or eggy bread? In my house it’s definitely eggy bread and its one of the recipes that my kids love cooking themselves.
A quick search of the internet also has this delicious snack called Bombay toast, German toast, gypsy toast, poor knights (of Windsor), or Torrija. It actually doesn’t matter what you call it, the taste doesn’t change…it is delicious, and one of my very favourite light bite lunchtime snacks.
I can only eat this at lunchtime though, any other time just seems wrong, although my kids love it for breakfast and tea too.
- 3 Eggs
- 4 slices Bread
- 3 tbsp milk
- Butter for frying
Place a frying pan onto a hob and heat up.
Crack the eggs into a shallow dish, Add the milk and and whisk.
Slice the bread into soldiers or into quarters. Dip the bread into the egg and milk mixture.
Add butter to the hot frying pan, and fry the eggy bread until golden brown. Flip the bread carefully and cook the second side.
Serve with sliced banana or dip into ketchup - delicious
cooking with kids
Please remember that cooking with kids is an absolute joy, however the kitchen does have its share of dangers.
Children should be supervised when using the hob!
